The demolition of the 2,800 foot bridge was broadcast live this morning by the New York State Department of Transportation. The 80-year-old bridge had been closed indefinitely due to structural problems. According to NPR News, the bridge should be replaced in about two years. Until then 3,400 daily commuters must use a ferry service or travel up to 100 miles out of their way.
