Glenn Beck's Open Call for "Weiner Facts"

Section:
US News & Politics: Glenn Beck's Weiner Facts

What is essentially the grown-up, political equivalent to slanderous remarks on a high-school locker, talk show host Glenn Beck has been set off on a mock-fueled tirade against House of Representatives Democrat, Anthony Weiner. On Tuesday, congressman Weiner launched an investigation with the help of the FTC and the SEC against Goldline International. There was suspicion that the company had "violated federal law, using misleading practices to sell unwitting consumers overpriced gold coins." Amid a wave of complaints that back up this claim, Beck jumped on the defensive right away; the main reason, undoubtedly, is because Goldline happens to be one of his most crucial sponsors. Being one of the very few sponsors that stuck around after Beck's remarks stating that President Obama was a racist does not say much about the company's principles in general.

Since this supposed personal attack by Anthony Weiner, Beck went completely ballistic and did everything from rambling in his long, self-important article on Fox News about some sort of conspiracy that goes all the way to the President to silence him, to having childish fun with the name 'Weiner'. In a real show of immaturity, Beck asked listeners of his show today to send in their photoshopped pics of Weiner with "his nose as a wiener."

Refusing to leave it at that, Beck also took the time and energy to set up www.weinerfacts.com, where he encouraged the submissions of what he called "Weiner facts" - updates on what his favorite congressman was up to on a daily basis. Possessing the sense of humor of a twelve year old, he welcomed any photos with Weiner "in front of the wienermobile in front of his house, with his wiener dog, with his little wiener children." The fact that the site crashed almost immediately following Beck's talk show suggests a bit about the American public, or at least, Beck's audience.

Comments

I like to use big words to insult high school dropouts who make more money than me :)

I was so offended by his recent mocking of Obama's teenage daughter. Besides being wildly inappropriate and crass, it was also completely UNFUNNY. Making fun of a grown man named Weiner who may not be doing his job right is pretty respectable in comparison.

The reason that Beck always finds nemeses who help his career rather than hurt it is that the really mature decent people in the media and in government do their best to ignore him. For those who choose to 'take on' Beck it is usually one misstep of many and Beck's full time research crew will find the chinks in that armor pretty quick.
