Larry Platt's ''Pants on the Ground'' Has Deeper Meaning

Celebrity News: Larry Platt on American Idol singing Pants on the Ground

Avid fans of American Idol were the first to hear what would quickly become a viral hit: Larry Platt singing his own song titled 'Pants on the Ground' for the American Idol judges. Although Larry was rejected from show for age reasons (the 62 year old is a few years over the age cap of 28), he has become an overnight sensation. The video of his song has over 500,000 views and, according to Kens5 News, Larry has already received a phone call from Ryan Seacrest. "He said he liked the song and he told me to keep getting down" Larry said. Jimmy Fallon did a cover of the song on his late night show, and Platt is now reported to appear on the talk show ''The View'' on Monday.

Although it's a silly song, it has serious meaning to Platt. The former civil rights activist said that he had worked too hard and sacrificed too much to see young people walking around with sagging pants. According to The Pittsburgh Post Gazette , Larry has many plaques in recognition of his hard work with various committees, including the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. He can still be seen in his home town protesting various things, including racism, violence and war. Although he is now famous for his infectious tune "Pants on the Ground", he stands for something much bigger, and reached a large audience with his now infamous ditty.
