Missing Nadia Bloom Found: "I Can't Believe You Guys Rescued Me"

US News: Nadia Bloom

Police in Winter Springs, Florida have confirmed that Nadia Bloom, missing since Friday afternoon, has been found alive and well. Bloom, an 11-year old with Asperger's syndrome, became the focus of a massive area search when her lone bike was found near a wooded area behind the Barrington Estates subdivision in Winter Springs, her bike helmet ominously hanging from the handlebars.

Search teams left no stone unturned, utilizing everything from a helicopter to a sonar vehicle. Bottles of water and notes were scattered amongst the woods informing Nadia to stay still and wait for rescue. As the new week dawned, tension began to set in as the 96-hour mark loomed closer, a critical point in which the odds of survival decrease significantly and rescue teams need to make the decision to continue on, or give up. The chances were looking grim for little Nadia, whose parents described to authorities as also having "ADD, anxiety and autism," according to First Coast News.

It finally took a volunteer searcher to locate the girl waist-deep in the alligator-infested swamplands around Winter Springs on Tuesday morning. Covered in bug bites and suffering from dehydration, Nadia remained perseveringly upbeat; "I'm glad you guys found me" she says. "I can't believe you guys rescued me." The woods and brush being so dense, a team of 15 rescuers had to form a daisy chain and carry her out before she was hooked to an IV and brought to safety.

It remains a mystery as to what brought Nadia into the dangerous forest in the first place. She tells investigators that she saw nor talked to anyone before vanishing into the thick woods. Though, Bloom's sister has a theory that Nadia was inspired by the children's book "Lanie," whose title character loves nature and wildlife, and embarks on the adventure she so seeks in her own backyard.
