Teacher Who Savagely Beat a Student Turns Herself In on Previous Charge

Section:
US News: Houston Teacher caught on Tape Beating Student

Getting beat up is nothing to cry home about, but when you've just been beaten up by a teacher with an outstanding warrant, you may need to reassess your attitude. In a video uploaded on Monday, Sheri Lynn Davis, 40, is seen cornering a student in a classroom full of teens before it quickly turns brutal. At the Jamie's House Charter School in north Harris County for at risk pupils, the female science teacher drags a young male student across the floor by the ankles, slaps his face several times and kicks him while he's cowering on the ground.

The student in question, 13-year old Isaiah Johnson claims to have suffered mild bruising from the attack, but school officials did not see any visible bruises or black eyes. According to the Houston & Texas News, Johnson's mother, Alesha Johnson, admits that her son had been teasing and provoking a female classmate, which might have pushed Davis over the edge and into a confrontation. Students in the room who believed that the whole thing was a joke were quickly proven wrong, as the laughter heard in the video quickly dies, and the smirk on Isaiah's face is slapped right off. Some claim that other school employees witnessed the incident and did nothing. Who knows whether it was out of fear, shock, or just the pure satisfaction of seeing a bully get his comeuppance?

On the other hand, some would argue that there's something sinister going on beneath Sheri Lynn Davis' polished exterior. Although seemingly beloved by students and never receiving any complaints against her, Davis bears a year-long pending "criminal mischief" charge against her for slashing a woman's tires back in January. According to Local Fox News of Houston Ms. Davis had continued teaching despite a warrant out for her arrest since March of 2009. An outstanding warrant was confirmed by the Houston Chronicle, which stated that she "turned herself in and posted $1,000 bond Wednesday".

The severity of what exactly went on to push Davis into such drastic measures remains unknown. Although Isaiah's mother made a report to the school a couple of days after the April 29th incident, it wasn't until the cell phone video that classmate Janiqua Johnson filmed was brought forward that school officials moved to take action. Davis was demoted to administrative duty shortly thereafter, but only when the video aired on the television news was she promptly fired on late Monday night.

Comments

Sheri Lynn Davis had an outstanding warrant since March 2009, for slashing four tires, wow what a stellar teacher. I doubt if your tires were slashed that you would be defending her. That is over a year and the School did not know? Sure, what are they all idiots? Do they cover-up like the Catholic Church? Only time will tell. We all know that if the school had suspended her before this attack that we would not be here talking about this crazy woman.

I know the Police are investigating this and their job will be to defend the teacher and the school from lawsuits, so we all know how their report will read.

To all the teachers out there if you lose your temper and corner a child to beat them, drag them around on the floor and slam their their head into a wall then in my book its assault and battery and you should go to jail, case close.

If the teacher real did this because the student was making fun of someone or talking back, well that is a teaching moment that all students, if handled properly and like an adult, all the children could have benefit from.

I do not mind spanking from parents but I surely do not condone spanking from angry third parties, who already have violent tendencies and no teaching credentials.
