US military officials report that an Iranian aircraft overflew USS Eisenhower, going as low as 300 feet. Intentions were not seen to be hostile, but the military was unable to say exactly what the object was.

CNN suggests that the Iranians were trying to show off their prowess in the air with the Foker f27 but rumors that photographs of USS Eisenhower were taken by the jet fighter were unconfirmed by military sources.

The carrier was on patrol in the Gulf of Oman when it was approached. Military sources say that the Foker f27 did not behave in a threatening manner at any time and that it spent about twenty minutes overflying and circling USS Eisenhower. However, it has been formally stated that the jet fighter was not armed.
